Breastfeeding, Body Feeding, & Self-Attachment Classes

Learn to Breastfeed With Confidence — Before Baby Arrives

Everything the hospital classes rush through, taught by someone who has supported hundreds of LA families through it.

Most new parents are told breastfeeding will just "come naturally." For a lot of families, it doesn't — and that gap between expectation and reality hits at the worst possible moment: exhausted, three days postpartum, with a baby who won't latch and a pediatrician's appointment on the calendar.

The hospital classes only cover the basics, if you're lucky enough to catch it before baby arrives. What it doesn't cover: what a good latch actually feels like, how birth trauma can affect your milk coming in, how to fit a pump flange correctly, or what to do when nothing seems to be working.

You don't have to learn this in the middle of the night, alone, from a forum post.

Meet Melanie Wachsman, UCLA-Certified Lactation Educator

Melanie Wachsman, DONA-certified doula and lactation educator in Los Angeles

Hi, I'm Melanie — a UCLA-certified lactation educator (CLE), plus birth & postpartum doula with almost two decades supporting LA families through pregnancy, birth, and those beautiful but exhausting first few weeks as a new parent. I built this class around the questions I hear most in postpartum visits, including one most classes skip entirely: how birth trauma affects lactation, and what you can do about it.

This isn't a lecture. It's practical, hands-on, and built so you walk in with a plan — not just information.

"The yoga exercises definitely helped prepare me physically, and she was a great resource after my son was born when I was struggling with breastfeeding. I can honestly say I am still breastfeeding — seven months later — thanks to her positivity and great advice. My only regret is not taking her breastfeeding class sooner." — Patricia R.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breastfeeding

What's covered in the class?
We cover the full arc of early breastfeeding — how it works physiologically, getting a comfortable and effective latch, positioning, feeding schedules, self-attachment techniques, breast care, correct flange fitting for pumping, and sleep shaping strategies that work with breastfeeding rather than against it.
Private or group — which is right for me?
If you have specific concerns you'd rather not discuss in front of others, or you want the full session focused only on your questions, choose private. If you'd like to connect with other expecting parents and don't mind a shared setting, the group class covers the same material at a lower price point.
What if I go into labor before my scheduled class?
If an emergency or early birth means your class needs to be cancelled, you'll be notified by email as soon as possible and rescheduled for the following week — no need to worry about losing your spot.
How does birth trauma affect breastfeeding?
Difficult or traumatic births can delay milk coming in, create physical discomfort that interferes with latching, or add emotional stress that makes early feeding harder. We talk through this directly in class so you're not caught off guard, and so you have a plan if it happens to you.
Do I need to take this before I give birth?
Yes — ideally in your third trimester. Learning the fundamentals before baby arrives means you're not trying to absorb new information while running on no sleep.
